Welcome Back Columbus! Minnesota Releases 2013 Preseason Schedule

Minnesota released its six-game 2013 preseason schedule today (July 10) with few surprises when it comes to opponents.

The Wild face three teams - Columbus, St. Louis and Winnipeg - in home and home series beginning with the preseason home opener September 17th against the Blue Jackets.

This year's schedule is about as traditional as it gets for preseason hockey. Minnesota has faced Columbus in the preseason every year since 2008 besides last season when it was wiped out as part of the 2012 Lockout. The Wild and Blues have played every preseason since 2009.

Surprisingly, Minnesota and Winnipeg have never played in the preseason despite being the two closest cities. They were supposed to play a home-and-home series last year, but the NHL Lockout took care of that.

These two preseason games give a chance for the Wild and Jets to ease into a rivalry as division opponents after not playing each other last year. Both teams, along with St. Louis, are moving to a yet-unnamed Division as part of conference realignment.

Despite being preseason games, there have been consequences. An exhibition game in 2011 ended with Columbus defenseman James Wisniewski hitting Cal Clutterbuck in the head, leading to an eight-game suspension. This was followed up by Pierre-Marc Bouchard being suspended for two games after high-sticking Blue Jackets F Matt Calvert in the regular season opener.

Although it has happened in the past, there are no neutral site games this year.

Tickets for the 3 home preseason games go on sale August 19th at 10 a.m. CT. Like in past years, all games will be available on radio at KFAN.com. However, they will not be broadcast on Fox Sports North.
