Colton Gillies Fights Darroll Powe

(And now some regularly scheduled hockey coverage)
With a site named First Round Bust, it's hard to not comment on 2007 first round Colton Gillies when we see him. Since being waived by Minnesota and picked up by Columbus in January 2012, Gillies found a spot with the Blue Jackets (coached by former Wild head coach Todd Richards) as a grinder; scoring 6 points (2G-4A) in 37 games.
It's been a rough start to the year, however, as he spent the 5 games as a healthy scratch before Colton made his season debut last night against Dallas. He was once again in the lineup tonight against Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center and Gillies made his mark by fighting Darroll Powe early in the game (see above). In a way it's kind of fitting to see Gillies, the 16th overall pick in 2007, get a fighting major while 2011 first round pick Jonas Brodin (10th overall) set up Minnesota's first goal just a couple minutes later.
Minnesota ended up winning 3-2 to break a three-game winless streak. Dan will have the Hangover with his thoughts on all of tonight's game later.
As a bonus: Based on the logic of this post we should probably point out 2009 first round pick Nick Leddy's overtime winner Sunday. Here you go.
Remember when Tommy Thompson threw the U program under the bus? I do...
