9/7 Wild Notes: Becoming Wild, James Sheppard, John Draeger & More

If you missed it, the debut episode of "Becoming Wild: Chapter II" is available for viewing on both Wild.com and above this sentence. There's a lot to digest as cameras follow Minnesota forward Cal Clutterbuck and we'll try to have a review of all the action (and lack of it) tomorrow. Yes I said I'd unleash my inner TV critic on it today but like when your parents said they'd take you to Toys R' Us, that's not happening.

More notes and links after the jump.

-Today is the one year anniversary of the Lokomotiv plane crash and a solemn occasion. However, today is also the two year anniversary of First Round Bust patron saint James Sheppard crashing an ATV and fracturing his patella. Thank you James for that not-so-solemn memory.

-I couldn't get this to work outside of the first 5 seconds, which is kind of fitting after yesterday's KFAN piece, but here is Paul Allen, Paul Charchian and Kevin Gorg discussing the Wild and the Yeo pep talk. Hopefully not everyone gets the "error: IO problem" I am.

-Here is a photo of Jonas Brodin leaving Sweden

-Good news: Bobby Ryan is a Vikings fan.
Bad news: Kyle Rudolph is not a Wild fan and is earning the scorn of the State of Hockey.

-News that is both good and bad: Charley Walters doesn't read First Round Bust and likewise, no one who writes here is a little birdie. If Shooter did, he would have known Mikael Granlund told Finnish newspapers twice that he was playing in North America before talking to his agent Todd Diamond and getting the same info. (Pioneer Press)

-Zenon Konopka is one of three players to take part in today's NHL-NHLPA session as the count down to the CBA expiring September 15th draws nearer. (Star Tribune)

-How Louie Nanne fits in on the Penticton offense from the Vees season preview:
Looking at other pairings, Louie Nanne teams up with Evan Anderson and Travis Blanleil on a line that will be key in the match-up battles. Nanne’s pedigree is second to none, Anderson is a big body down the middle and Blanleil is just one of those players you hate to play against but love to have as a teammate. I see this line being a key as the season progresses, as some teams might struggle containing this trio and can give a few coaches headaches

-An oldie but something I recently came across - former Wild assistant GM (present NHL player agent) Tom Lynn discussing the Minnesota hockey culture to an outsider. Obligatory Nick Leddy warning. (The Pipeline Show)

-More old stuff: Everyone wants to make a killing in the stock market and be a hockey insider with no work. Two pieces do a good job highlighting that in "Please stop feeding the Skip Bayless" and "Welcome to the fantasy world of NHL rumors."

-It's not Wild-related but at least the Gophers are back to work.

-In other great Minnesota sports Twitter feed news, Chris Kluwe explains gay marriage to a Maryland legislator. (Deadspin)

-CHL vs. NCAA Round 93 (MyNorthwest.com)

-Finally, 2012 third round pick John Draeger was today's subject for Michigan State's "Meet the Spartans."
*MEET THE SPARTANS:* John Draeger (Fr., D, Faribault, Minn.)

What is your nickname?
I have many nicknames, but most people call me "Draegs."

Why did you pick your number?
I wore number seven at Shattuck, and I had some success with it - so I'm sticking with it.

Do you have any game-day superstitions?
I tie my skates standing up. The guys find it pretty funny, because it's very unusual.

If I wasn’t a hockey player, I probably would have played …..
baseball.

Fun Fact: My whole family was in the Minnesota State Fair parade. Dad was Smokey the Bear, mom was Woodsy the Owl, and my brother, sister and I were firefighters on the float.
