Minnesota Wild Prospect Development Camp Day 2 Line Combinations & Other Thoughts

Yesterday was the first day that the 44 players at Minnesota Wild development camp were on the ice for a pair of sessions. The lines  from Wild.com:

The only two players missing from the original lineup are forwards A.J. Michaelson and Mario Lucia. Both freshmen-to-be (at Minnesota and Notre Dame, respectively) are taking summer classes to get a leg up on their college careers and will join the camp late. The "Howe" in goal for the White team is likely Colorado College senior goaltender Joe Howe, who is a Plymouth, MN resident. While he had a good freshman season, Howe was replaced down the stretch this year by Josh Thorimbert.

Other than that, everyone else was on a line in one form or another.

Line Thoughts:
-It's interesting to see Mikael Granlund in a position where he'll likely play center because there's a good chance the 2010 first round pick will be on the wing in the NHL. That could change with who is on Team Green but playing center is also a sign that in this camp he is on another level. Even a Zucker-Phillips-Granlund line sounds better with #64 down the middle.

-After being on a line with Charlie Coyle and Jason Zucker last year, Justin Fontaine continues to get solid opportunities at prospect camp. Yes, he's a third wheel with Zucker and Granlund but an excellent choice.

-Marco Scandella-Mathew Dumba is a sick defensive pairing. Honestly Scandella can play with anyone at this camp - he was the elder statesman last year - and being with the 2012 first round pick creates an interesting dynamic with Dumba being able to take advantage of Scandella's D prowess.

-Steve Kampfer is the new Chay Genoway.

-Erik Haula and Christoph Bertschy make for a small yet skilled second line on Team White that could have a lot of chemistry. However, is Kris Foucault the player to create space?

-I'm interested to see a Tyler Cuma-Nick Seeler pairing.

Later today and tomorrow we'll break down the two teams and the invitees before Thursday's scrimmage.

  1. Just one comment: I think Mikael Granlund is gonna start out at center. At least that's what Russo has reported Yeo has said.
